Chicago 301 Stationary Engineer
Due to a Department of Buildings computer system upgrade, we are not currently processing new applications or renewals for Stationary Engineer licenses. Existing Stationary Engineer licenses which expired in April, May or June of 2022 will be honored through July 1, 2022. We expect processing of applications and renewals to resume by June 1, 2022. Please check this webpage for updates.

- Applicable fees and exam dates are listed below.
- Applicable fees. Payment is by check or money order, made payable to City of Chicago.
- All applicants must be 21 years of age and must provide an original signed letter (on company stationery) from their current or former employer’s “chief stationary engineer”. Include the Chief engineer’s license number.
- The letter must verify the dates of employment and establish a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in operation of high pressure boilers. The equipment’s steam output per hour, operating pressure shall be identified, and recite the applicant’s duties and responsibilities.
- The letter must be accompanied by a photocopy of the chief engineer’s Stationary Engineer license certificate.
